Did you know ‘Tse-Tse fly’ is a tautology?

Yeah…talked to the medical entomology lady today. Learned something interesting about common names. In all the medical literature I’ve ever read, researchers refer to flies of the genus Glossina as tse-tse flies. Well…apparently Tse is swahili for fly. Which makes Tse-tse fly a tautology, apparrently. Weird.
